When Uncertainty Rules the Day

Posted on November 2, 2020 under Career & Work, Coaching, Entrepreneurs, Interview, Job Search, Pandemic, Uncategorized

Recently several of my good girlfriends dropped off their college Freshmen children at their respective dream schools.

These families have been waiting for months, and then weeks and even days to secure the details of when, how, and even if at all, their children would be living on campus.

The uncertainty of the pandemic has transformed this highly celebrated drop-off ritual into an unfamiliar new order.

In speaking with my friends I shared that the one piece of solace, aside from a gratitude practice, was to embrace what can be controlled rather than focus on what is lost in chaos.

It is exactly the same with job hunting right now.

We cannot control the economy, the pandemic, the stock market, the election, the social unrest, the toilet paper supply, and definitely not who's hiring, firing, offering retirement packages, and doing layoffs and furloughs.

What we can control is how we conduct ourselves.

Our best control is to sharpen our swords by becoming more competitive in the job market in all the key areas of:

✅ value pitch
✅ networking
✅ resume
✅ cover letters
✅ LinkedIn
interview
✅ negotiation
✅ thank you notes
✅ video technology
✅ email communications

What will you control in your job search today?
